What you can do instead

• Ask every participant for their agreement before recording, and capture that agreement at the start of the call.
• If the call is with someone in a one-party consent state and you are the one in Michigan, the stricter Michigan rule still applies to you.
• Where a written record is what you actually need, contemporaneous notes confirmed by email afterwards carry weight without touching recording law at all.

When the other person is in another state

Consent rules follow the people on the call, not the number you dialled. If any participant is sitting in an all-party consent state, treat the call as all-party and get everyone's agreement first — whatever the rule is where you are. These are the jurisdictions that require it:

Is it legal to record a phone call in Michigan?

Michigan requires the consent of every party on the call before it may be recorded. Recording a Michigan call without that consent exposes you to legal risk, which is why RecordableCall is not offered in the state.

Can I use RecordableCall in Michigan?

No. We do not offer the service in Michigan, because our model rests on your consent alone and Michigan requires consent from everyone on the call.
